Per-seat pricing had a good run.

For twenty years, renting your software was the smart move. It isn't anymore, and the reason has nothing to do with the software getting worse.
The old deal
Building software used to take a team of engineers and a lot of money. So most businesses did the sensible thing: they rented. Someone else paid for the engineers, and you paid a monthly fee for every person who logged in. It was a good deal for a long time.
What changed
Building got fast. With AI in the hands of people who know how to use it, a small team can now design, build and launch in weeks what used to take months. When building gets that much cheaper, renting forever stops being the obvious answer. It becomes a habit.
The rent you don't see
- You pay for the whole platform and use a small part of it.
- The bill grows every time you hire someone.
- Your team bends its work around someone else's screens.
- Your data lives in someone else's house.
- Stop paying, and it's gone.
None of that shows up as one big number. It shows up as five or ten smaller ones, every month, forever.
Not everything should go
We're not anti-subscription. Some tools are worth every penny: your email, your payroll, your bookkeeping. They're the same for everyone, and they're done well. Keep them.
The ones worth a second look are the tools at the center of how your business runs: how you track clients, take orders, schedule work and follow up. Those are the most personal to you, and they're often the ones your team works around the most.
What owning looks like
One system, shaped to how your team already works. Built on your own accounts, so the code and the data are yours. A new screen when you need one, not a new subscription. AI agents built in, doing the follow-ups and busywork your team shouldn't have to.
Where we think this is going
A few years from now, we think small businesses will own their core systems the way they own their websites today. Not because subscription software got bad, but because the math changed. Renting made sense when building was expensive. Building isn't expensive anymore.
